Slowly, Maela became aware of a presence, a growling presence only inches from her face as she woke up. Soft blue eyes as the sky slid open to the sight of a wolf, baring it's teeth and growling threateningly at her. This threat directly in her face would cause her to jump and shriek in shock, as she dropped her bag onto the ground, and pressed her back against the tree trunk. She was so shocked and frightened that the thought didn't even occur to her that the wolf in front of her could have killed her easily when she slept. But for now she would just stand with her back to the trunk, her eyes darting side to side to see if there were other wolves around. Luckily there wasn't, just the one that stood in front of her with teeth bared. The first thought that went through her head was that she could try to run away, but quickly decided against that option. The second thought that would occur to her was why her precognitive abilities hadn't warned her about this threat... unless nothing bad was going to happen. Swallowing hard she would try to calm herself down as she looked at the still growling wolf. So far it hadn't attacked, which she supposed was a good sign.
"Nice wolfie, I don't want to hurt you and I'll be leaving right away so I'll be out of your territory really soon. Please just don't hurt me," Maela tried to speak as soothingly as she could, and would just watch the wolf for any kind of reaction. The reaction she was looking for, would come when the wolf would stop growling at Maela and gave her a funny look before it gave a barking laugh.
"Like I can trust a human, all your kind does is destroy our enviroment and steal our food sources," The wolf would growl out huffily, and to Maela's surprise she understood what the wolf had said. Also surprisingly, she could tell that the wolf was female, although that didn't register to her for the moment over the fact she understand the wolf's words!
"Wh-what did you say?" Her eyes had gone wide, and now she just openly stared at the female wolf before her. The wolf would shake her head, still speaking in a huffy, snobbish tone.
"Oh great, a deaf one! What I said was-" And she'd stop suddenly, her own wolfish eyes widening as she stared at Maela, "Wait... You understand what I'm saying?"
"Yes, I can... How can I understand you?" Maela questioned as she gave the wolf a suspicious look, curiousity in her eyes. For some reason, because she could understand her, she was no longer quite as afraid of the wolf, and that left room for her to be curious.
"I-I don't know. Normally I have to speak your language for one of you to understand me. Unless your not human..." The female wolf would shake her head as she gave a suspicious look to Maela, wondering what the human appearing girl really was.
"You speak the human language?" She'd ask in surprise of the wolf before her. Her wonder seemed more with the fact that there was a wolf that could speak to humans, rather than that she was understanding a wolf when it wasn't speaking in a human language.
"Yes, why do you think I'm alone, huh? It's not something all wolves can do, I was just born with it! It's not like it's normal that you humans can understand us naturally, either!" A slight growl would leave the wolf's muzzle as she spoke in a defensive tone and looked away from Maela. A snort would come from Maela at those words, before she slumped to the ground, her back still up against the tree's trunk.
"You don't have to worry about what I think. I can understand what it's like being born different so that your family, and everyone around you doesn't understand," Her words were soft as she reflected on the reason why she was out in this forest to begin with.
"Yeah? So you know what it's like to be accused of something you didn't do and be outcast?" The female wolf would huff as she lay down on the ground in front of the girl, looking up at her with dark-blue eyes. She still wasn't sure if she trusted this girl, since she was most likely human, but maybe... she understood.
"Unfortunately...I know all too well. That's why I'm all alone out here. My village thought I tried to kill someone, when all I did was save their life. When my own family tried to lock me up... I decided it was best to leave," Giving a quick rundown of her situation, Maela would finish speaking before she ran her fingers through her blonde hair, pushing stray strands out of her face. Even though it was fresh pain in her heart, she had already locked it away. After all, crying about it wasn't going to reverse time, or fix things.
"Oh... So you do understand. I was chased out of my pack because a hunter intruded on our territory through a secret path, and almost killed our cubs. I was blamed of course because they believed that since I'm the only one who can speak Human, that I would have had to tell him. I didn't though," She spoke in a disgruntled tone before making a huffing sound again. The wolf seemed depressed, and Maela could sympathize with that. She knew the pain of wrong accusations. Nodding her head, she'd look down to her hands for a few moments, just sitting in silence before she'd turn her gaze back to the wolf in front of her.
"Well it sounds like we're in the same boat... Maybe, if you want we can travel together since you can't stick around here, and I'm on a journey to find someone?" Maela would suggest softly, a bit of hope shining in her eyes. Up until a few moments ago, she hadn't realized how lonely the trip was going to be, if she was going to go at it alone. Surprise would show in the wolf's eyes as she studied the girl in front of her before answering.
"I... don't know. Who's the person your trying to find? Besides... you haven't even given me your name yet," Her head would tilt as she watched Maela to see her reaction to her answer and question. She wasn't quite ready to jump to trusting a human yet.
"Oh, right, sorry. I'm Maela Tarnay. The person I'm trying to find is my uncle. I believe he's still alive because he was rumored to have been thought crazy just like me and his body had been unrecognizable. I hope that I'm right, and he'll be able to tell me more about why I am the way I am... What's your name?" She answered, giving her name before explaining about her theory and hope. It was all that was keeping her going for the moment.
"Okay, I suppose that all makes sense. I'm known as Moonrise. If- if I were to travel with you, would you try and help me to find my purpose as well?" After Moonrise introduced herself she would pose a question to Maela. It had been something she wondered ever since she came to know she possessed the ability she did.
"It's nice to meet you Moonrise. And of course! I would definitely help you do that as well. So what do you say," Maela would smile brightly and looked hopefully to Moonrise.
"I'm glad to have met you Maela. This isn't an opportunity I can pass up, so yes, I'll travel with you. You want to start out now?" The wolf would climb to her feet, her dark eyes alive now that she had a reason to go on.
"I'm afraid, that you can't do that Moonrise. You're going to have to come back to the den with us. The Alpha wants to speak to you," Suddenly a voice would come from almost nowhere, before Maela's eyes saw the wolves that strolled out from the bushes around them...
